History

Thanks to his creativity the exceptional and extremely musical tenor saxophonist Osian Roberts belongs to the most prominent players on the present Welsh jazz scene. He has countless playing experience and many awards. At just seventeen, immediately after completing his studies at London's Royal Academy of Music, he had won the award granted to a jazz soloist's by Daily Telegraph. His recording career began with the Perrier Award for best jazz album when he was only nineteen. He has been extensively performing and recording already during his studies. Osian is a strong tenor saxophonist and can definitely be regarded as one of the top players of his generation. He played with many great British musicians, including Sir John Dankworth, Dave Cliff, Iain Ballamy, Petr Král, Jim Mullen, Mike Carr and Peter Ind, as well as world stars such as Cedar Walton, George Mraz, Hod O'Brien, Claus Raible and Peter Washington. During his career Osian traveled twenty-five countries around the world and performed from Thailand to America. When not traveling, he spends his time alternating between Great Britain and the Czech Republic, where he now lives with his family. He released four albums under his own name at the Hard Bop Records. His current bands includes trio, quartet and quintet, which leads together with trumpeter Steve Fishwick, and cooperates with Czech drummer Martin Šulc in a big band. At JGTT Osian will be accompanied by an excellent Czech pianist Najponk and an experienced rhythm section, bassist Tomáš Kaštan Baroš and drummer Martin Šulc.
